The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has commended the Georgia House of Representatives in the United States for conferring a prestigious honour on one of its national leaders, Kunle Rasheed Adegoke, SAN, describing the recognition as a validation of the organisation’s commitment to promoting human rights, justice, and the fight against corruption.

In a letter of appreciation dated July 17, 2026, and addressed to the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives through the Consul General of the United States in Lagos, HURMA expressed profound gratitude for the international recognition accorded to the senior lawyer.

The letter, signed by HURMA’s Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, stated that the honour bestowed on Adegoke was not only a personal achievement but also an acknowledgment of the organisation’s sustained efforts in defending human rights, combating corruption, and advancing the cause of justice in Nigeria and beyond.

According to the organisation, it received news of the honour with immense pride, noting that the recognition underscored the impact of Adegoke’s contributions to the legal profession and human rights advocacy.

HURMA described Adegoke as a pillar of the organisation whose unwavering commitment to the rule of law, provision of pro bono legal services to the poor and oppressed, and consistent advocacy for justice have inspired many.

It added that the recognition by the Georgia House of Representatives would serve as a source of encouragement for the organisation to intensify its advocacy and humanitarian activities.

The organisation also praised the Georgia House of Representatives for recognising excellence, courage, and service to humanity, stating that the gesture would further strengthen ties between human rights defenders in Nigeria and the United States.

“We deeply appreciate the Georgia House of Representatives for recognising excellence, courage, and service to humanity. This gesture strengthens the bond of friendship between human rights defenders in Nigeria and the United States,” the letter stated.

HURMA further assured the Georgia House of its commitment to sustained collaboration in advancing the global struggle for human rights, democracy, and justice.

Copies of the appreciation letter were sent to Adegoke, the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, and members of the media.

Adegoke, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), is widely recognised for his contributions to the legal profession, particularly his advocacy for the rule of law, access to justice, and pro bono legal representation for vulnerable members of society.
